One Proud Mama!

I am so proud of Jakob I can barely stand it! Anyone who knows him knows that his pacifier (aka "na na") has pretty much been in his mouth from birth. He just loves that thing. Well lately, he's taken to throwing everything, and I mean everything...including "na na". I've had to pull it from under gross shelves at stores, out from under dirty cars in parking lots. I even had to walk back two blocks downtown praying that I'd find it so that the car ride wouldn't be terrible on the way home.

Something came over me yesterday and I decided that it was time for "na na" to be retired. But how do you explain to a 14 month old that his beloved binky is about to not exist any more. Well...you don't. You simply put him in his crib for nap time, without the "na na", and hope for the best. I'm not going to lie...it was a long afternoon with many many tears. But last night he slept through the night with out it and just now, I put him in his crib for a nap and after a few minutes of playing with cow and pig...he put himself to sleep!!!! I am so proud of him for being able to soothe himself - makes a mama proud!

You should be a very proud mama! I also just went through this exact experience.. except Kade just turned 3 - oops! I think your choice was smart. I was too selfish and wanted soothing for a couple extra years.

Oh what a joyous day to not be slave to the na na anymore! Way to go Jakob (and Mom for making it happen!)

Nice WORK Mom!! That was a brave move for you but way easier now than later! As greatful as I am for the hours and hours of soothing Ben's thumb has given him...can't so much take that away from him. I only hope he will grow out of it on his own before I have to resort to any crazy tactics!

Way to go mama! What a liberating/fearful day. If only we could use the binky on our terms only, say in airplanes or restaraunts, but not for every nap/bed time, or all day around the house. Good for you. At least you won't be the mom with a 5 year old still sukcing a binky! Think of that when you're tempted to give in!

Proud of you for sticking to your guns on this one- and so excited to get new pictures of Jakob without his na na in his mouth!

That is a good day. Oh, the passey, we let Christopher lose all of his and just stopped replacing them, he finally decided he could live without it. He will be off to college before you know it.
